![]() I had hopes of perhaps swapping some of the brass parts for steel replacements, getting the replacement trigger guard that The Hawken Shop has available, and moving the look a little more towards British Sporting rifle than Hawken-esque, as Im not a big fan of the major drop in the stocks and deep crescent butts of percussion period American rifles, (and which the TC Hawken has negated to a moderate degree) but the barrel thing has given me pause. The barrels Im seeing on ebay and other places are quickly putting the gun out of the practical fun gun bracket. Thoughts of drilling it out to smoothbore it occurred to me, but its probably beyond my abilities with a back and shoulder injury. Badly enough Im hesitant to try shooting it as I think it will foul badly and quickly, if I can even load it without issues seating the ball. In a couple weeks of messing with it, hot water cleaning, bronze bore brushing, old Hoppes no 9, steel wool, scotch brite green pads, its really badly pitted. ![]() The seller mentioned the bore was in need of some help.yeah, that turned out to be an understatement. I had a TC Hawken when a kid and shot squirrels with it and had fun just shooting it, so thought Id try another one. Ive had various muzzle loaders off and on over the years but havent had one in maybe 15 years. Ive been out of the muzzle loading habit for quite a long time and decided to get something to shoot a bit.
